Great simple video, thanks very much!

To avoid an idiot like myself setting alight to my roof (and I don’t have a blow torch of any description) is there anything similar which can stick and bond to the felt without having to warm? Would the material still be effective without heating up? Thanks!

It depends on how warm it is in the loft, if you are in a cold country and it’s winter, there is little chance that the flashband will stick unless the temperature of the felt is high enough.
I don’t know of anything that will stick to cold felt.
      Thanks for the comment ?

    Thanks for the video.
Just fixed my roof felt which was sagging and ripped from old birds nests. I had to rip the felt some more to get the old straw through and there were some more rips from contractors bodging the vents when they put insulation in. Have to get a roofer to check the outside of the roof

Anyway, I had some old flash banding knocking about, used it a few years ago to stick a gutter to a flat roof so the rain doesn’t run down the patio door anymore. Rain won’t run into a gutter off a flat roof like a tiled one.

Pliers are ideal to nip the banding and tear off in a straight line, it tends to stick to the scissor blades. Having no heatgun and only an LED torch, I used a small staple gun to stick the banding to the felt and through to some joists, which means I could overlap the banding slightly for larger holes. I have some bitumen paint or better sealant in a tube and will seal the staples to stop them going rusty anytime soon. Will reinforce the repairs with some roofing felt, staples and bitumen but need to shop around for a cheap roll.

Hi! Thanks for the video! I’ve got quite a few rips and bits of the roofing felt actually hanging down from the roof. There’s no water leaking in or anything, but I do want to fix it. What would I need to do in this case, saying the roof felt appears to be so old it’s started ripping and hanging down.

    Cheers

Excellent. Thank you for your help and advice. I have problems with furry rodents sneaking in wherever there’s a gap. Do you know what I should use to secure large pieces of old 1950s roofing felt that has come adrift please?
