HOW TO INSTALL THE STARTER SHINGLE
Installation of the manufacturer's starter shingle is convenient and is the best product to use as the starter course. It's not complicated and you do not need to over think this part of the roofing process. There are several important items that will be communicated in the video.
It’s amazing how people have something to say about how “wrong” someone else does but when you look for the right answer on their page, all they have to show is a bunch of music videos. I mean seriously show YOUR video you guys. There’s more than one right way to cut a steak guys. Get out of it.
Chili today, Hot tomoli!
thanks for all of your great info. it’s so helpful!
And laying the cut shingles upside down on the finish roof to allow the tar strip to adhere to it.
Roofer install drip edge upside down, now it is leaking. 🙁 it’s been about 15 yrs. But still sucks they did it.
I made my roofers watch this video before putting on my new roof
I installed my drip edge on my rake before I layed the water and ice underlayment on my car port. Is it essential that it goes over the underlayment along the rake? If so I’ll just double it up.
Nope. A chalk line should have been used. Doing it “by eye” is not a real technique here.
Not following Owens Corning nailing patterns from what I can see.. 1 nail an inch from either end and then 4 towards the center about 12 inches from the edge nails. These nails are going spaced across the shingle..
Hermosa se ve nuestra raza, vergas para trabajar.
How does it make sense to start that valley before you run up the lower part of the roof? Having that starter hang that far over the valley creates a hump in the middle of the valley. You don’t know where the lower roof shingles will land. And you just made it harder to work that part of the lower roof. I predict you will have an unnecessary ugly noticeable hump right there.
I don’t like the shingling technique they do in the valley. Preprinted metal valley is the way to go. The shingles in the valley see way more water than the main roof and will breakdown quicker than the other shingles.
Your guy is throwing the starter shingles down with no accuracy for the 1/4 overhang so I don’t care if he’s from Mars he’s doing a shitty job.
Your Roofer was on a leading edge with out being tied off. three of your guys in this video are not tied off they are just wearing harnesses.
i don’t use ’em on the rake, never have
Don’t your men snap lines or do they just wing it and you’r racking the shingles. Something the shingle manufacturer says not to do.
That’s Tegridy!
Is the starter strip flush with drip edge or do you extend out a bit?
Dean Coburn usually do 2 knuckles on bottom 1 knuckle on rakes.
Everyone’s wearing harnesses, but only a few workers are attached to a SRL or rope grab. How can you show this video? You think worker safety is a joke?
