Essential GAF Roofing System Components for Your Home | We Protect What Matters Most
Replacing a roof is not just about new shingles, it’s about installing a complete roofing system that will protect your most valued asset for years to come. But before you install the roof components, you’ll need to remove all of the old roofing , evaluate the roof deck for damage and make any repairs. Then you’ll need to install a leak barrier, which is a self-adhering waterproof membrane that helps protect the most vulnerable areas of the roof.
Next is Roof Deck Protection, which covers and helps protect against wind-driven rain that can blow underneath your shingles.
Then Starter strip shingles are installed at the eaves of your roof to help prevent your shingles from blowing off in high winds.
Now you’re ready to install quality asphalt shingles, which will not only help to protect your most home, but also beautify it for years to come. They are available in a wide array of colors to complement the taste of virtually any homeowner.
Next is a ridge vent, which is installed at the ridge, and works with eave vents to help remove damaging heat and moisture from your attic.
Finally, Ridge Cap Shingles are installed on the hip and ridge areas of your home, to help to protect against leaks and high winds at these vulnerable areas.
All these components are part of the GAF lifetime roofing system. GAF is North America’s largest roofing manufacturer and has been in the business for over 125 years.

This is a great example of a promotional roofing video.
wow i am dumber after watching this video. would love to know what the names of the products are… what is this ‘leak barrier’ is that tiger paw?
… Deck Armor lol
You should train your men. Or have them get trained to be master elite installers
nice
you do not secure the ridge vent with a nail gun???
I make ventilators for a living and i’m telling you that these plastic vents are trouble. The clog easy and they collapse on themselves and they don’t vent like they are suppose to. Plastic and heat don’t mix. The ONLY reason roofing company’s use this vent is because they get a good get back from the company that makes them. If they were made of metal then they would have a good vent but they’re not.
Personally 750 Slant Backs, I like the best for ridge vent and animals cant chew on them and get in, and cant clog nor get any water or snow in the Attic, GAF sells them at Lowes, and the make other stuff than the Cobra Ridge Vent that will collapse, but GAF also makes a Harder Ridge Vent that wont like the Cobra Ridge Vent
All GAF ridge vents are tested as per ICC AC38 which includes dust loading and clogging testing. GAF recommends filtered ridge vent products for areas prone to snow to provide maximum protection against snow infiltration in the attic.
actually Lomanco makes a ridged roof vent that works the best and does not have a filter to clog as long as you have proper intake on the soft vents
Be careful if you use WeatherWatch Granular Surfaced Leak Barrier. It is like installing a sheet of ice on the edge of the roof. The granular surface is like walking on marbles. Used it for the first time and had three men slide of the roof when they stepped on the tar paper lapped over the ice guard. I have time to write this because I was one of them and am laid up with a broken foot.
If you place a leak barrier across the ridge how does the ridge vent work
i saw that they closed the right first, and then installed the plastic ridge vent — got me there !
.. cut it in lol
I’ve seen to many of these clogged with leaf and I’m not a fan of plastic. If this vent was made out of aluminium then you have something.I have heard roofing company’s sale these because of the kick back they get from the manufacture.
It’s too bad many roofers don’t even impliment this type of roof installation. I understand it can be difficult justifying the cost difference to a home owner when you are competing against a roofing contractor that installs the minimum required materials, but this or similar methods really should be standard practice in the industry. Not enough regulation I guess. Nice video!
We proudly use GAF materials on our projects.
